How to Sanitize Cement Tank for BIOFloc Fish Farming
Let’s understand, why and how to Sanitize Cement Tank for BIOFloc Fish Farming? Cement contains mostly Limestone and the lime in cement is toxic to aquatic life. Lime can be easily dissolved in water and it drastically changes to water pH (11-13). Which causes burns on fish and kill fish. Follow this process to Sanitize Cement Tank for BIOFloc use.
Step1: Using the brush, paint the cement tank with Hydrochloric Acid and leave it for 2-3 hours. Lime inside the cement will react with Hydrochloric acid and it will create foams. After 2-3 hours, fill the cement tank with water and leave it for 2-3 days then drain it. Again add fresh water into the cement tank and leave it for two days and check pH levels. If the pH maintains a normal range, then the tank is ready to use. Else remove water and add fresh water into the tank and keep it for a week then measure pH. Its call leaching process
Step2: After completion of step1, use Potassium Permanganate solution to wash the tank and leave it for 2 days then wash it with fresh water. This process helps to remove damaging fungal from the tank.
Step3: If you don’t have patient and willing to invest some money, you can use EPOXY Painting on the wall of the Cement Tank and let it dry. After that wash the Cement Tank with Potassium Permanganate (KMNO4) Solution. EPOXY Paint can last up to 1-2 years depending upon the usages.
